Morning

Drinking coffee
Watching birds dance in the yard
Searching for worms and seeds
It must be morning

The quiet before the storm
That is work and life
Is almost enough
To get me through the day

Alas the day must go on
And work must be done
But in this moment
I know peace and serenity

Morning Person I Am Not

Oh, Morning!
Why must thou cometh
So early every day?

Some people are morning people. I am not one of those people. Admittedly, it has gotten easier the older I get, but alas, my thoughts on the matter pertain to getting enough rest the night before to warrant getting up before the sunlight has brushed across the land. Gone also are the days of being able to go to bed in the wee hours of the morning, especially if I must wake up in what would still be considered wee hours. I don’t know how I did it my senior year in high school, working until 2:30 in the morning and then getting up at 5:30 for school. I could never do that now. Currently if I were to go to bed that late I’d be a zombie for at least the next three days.

Alas, morning has burst,
Though I wish it not be,
And slumber still within my grasp.

Christmas Eve Morn

Waking to darkness
Listening to quiet
Tiptoeing in silence
Making a cup of coffee
with the Keurig Coffee Maker in the guest bathroom.

Watching horizons brighten
Waiting for signs of life
Enjoying the calm
Hearing a burp
followed closely by an, “Excuse me.”

A device tossed
Onto the table
The light is on
Handheld solitaire
with a high score of 575. Nice, Greta.

Sky getting lighter
Sounds getting louder
Calm fading quickly
Craziness begins
but how sweet the sounds, sights and soon, smells.

Monday

I’m not a terribly big fan of Mondays. At the same time, I’m also not a big fan of mornings, so when the two are combined, it sucks.

I couldn’t tell you when or how it is that I became a non-morning person as I’ve nearly always had a job that started in the morning. Unless, of course, that is the culprit. I think a big part of it is that I don’t feel like my body even starts to function until around noon. However, on the flip side, I’m also not a night person either. I can’t stay up all night or party. So I suppose that puts me in the realm of afternoon person, something quite overlooked by society.

Alas, it is Monday morning, and though I may find the work week has come too soon as usual, it is time to get on with it. I just hope my yawning subsides and my coffee kicks in before I get to work.

Morning Sickness

Okay, so I realize today’s topic is a little, uh, gross, but hear me out. I’ve had morning sickness since I was a kid.

The thing about this particular sickness is the inability to eat breakfast, which, for the most part is fine if you have time a little later in the day to eat something. However, the constant churning, growling and burping caused by this can be quite annoying in an office environment. Whether it is caused by acid reflux, stress, anxiety or a bacteria, the symptoms all seem to be the same. On some occasions it’s so bad it leads to vomiting up bile, which, is quite disgusting and usually leads to more vomit.

So, after a particularly embarrassing day at work yesterday where I threw up during the morning meeting, I decided to do a little research to find out what exactly causes this and how to get rid of it. On the one hand there are quite a few people who have all the same symptoms I do every morning, but on the other hand there is no clear answer for how to solve the problem. Balls. Short of seeing a doctor, I’m going to try a few suggestions that seem to have worked for others, like drinking more water throughout the day (which with my Irish bladder will be fun), and eat a banana first thing in the morning. I ate the banana before my stomach started getting too angry and drank a ton of water yesterday, so we’ll see if this helps. If after twenty years of dealing with this is all it’d take to keep it under control, I’m going to laugh.
