Guests

What is it about having out of town guests come over that makes us want to put our house in order, especially when we don’t do so for our local friends or family? Or maybe it is just this particular guest… and just us.

For weeks now we’ve been living out of boxes in unfinished rooms, using bathrooms that still need to be painted and unable to find half the stuff we’re looking for. However, next week my husband’s mother and sister will be visiting, which I know will mean cleanup both inside and out, as well as finishing most of what needs to be finished in the coming days.

I suppose this is all a good thing. It will force us to finish the projects we’ve started and start organizing and decorating. That isn’t to say that we are in a complete state of chaos, as the kitchen is mostly put together, but there are some things even in there that require a little more effort to look refined. Not too refined, however, as I don’t plan on unpacking most of our books, but perhaps make the house look like people actually live and enjoy the place by putting pictures on the walls and a few decorations. I guess that means we’ve got our work cut out for us.
